Robert J Martindale grew up in St Helens, an industrial town near Liverpool in England. Growing up he was an avid reader, mainly thrillers by Stephen King and fantasy books by JRR Tolkien. He always loved to write stories and imagined himself as an author, but pursued his other passion of technology, starting a tech hardware company in the UK.
He saved up and started to travel internationally, enjoying the people and different cultures. He met his wife, Agatha, on a holiday in Brazil. They married, and they moved to San Diego, California. He continued his career working for several tech startup companies and enjoyed life with Agatha and their two children. They enjoy hiking with their dog Smitty.
The love of people, places, intrigue and spy stories finally came to fruition with his first published novel, I Only Have a Day. The plot came to him in dreams and the feeling that everything is just a little off kilter. He continues to write and intends to publish a sequel, diving deeper into the phenomena known as The Kiltering.
He continues to travel and explore the world with Agatha, together they have visited many countries. All the new places and cultures inspire Robert to continue his writing.
In the future, he will return to finish his first manuscript, Can’t Undo Vindaloo, hoping to publish the book.
When he is not traveling or writing, he loves to collect and read the many wonderful books by JRR Tolkien.
A Special Thank You.
Many thanks to Holly Kammier and everyone at Acorn Publishing for providing the opportunity to publish my novel. The process is both straightforward and organized, providing guidance and help throughout the entire process. Special thanks to Laura Taylor for her diligent work in editing my manuscript.
Finally, I want to thank my daughter Nicole for her many hours of editing and reading the various drafts, she has found time in her busy life to make this a reality. Thanks also to Agatha for her enduring patience with me throughout this entire process, and for editing and commenting on every chapter. And finally, thanks to my sister Elizabeth for her editing and comments. Without these people, I would not have pursued and completed a lifelong ambition, and I would still have just little scraps of paper with ideas and notes!
I want to visit as many countries as possible, experiencing the world and all the wonderful people and cultures. I have been lucky enough to visit Rio de Janeiro, Cairo, Hong Kong, India, Patagonia and Zanzibar, as well as many other interesting places.
I have clear memories of reading Stephen King by flashlight, late at night, the wind and rain howling outside on cold winters evenings in England. I also have a keen interest in JRR Tolkien, and I read and collect his wonderful books.
